Resolution of the Council of the City of Gahanna to Recognize Air Quality Awareness Week

Whereas, poor air quality affects everyone, but some individuals are particularly sensitive to air pollutants, including children and adults who are active outdoors, the elderly, and those with chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma; andWhereas Air Quality Awareness Week encourages people to be mindful of their contributions to air pollution and to make responsible decisions that contribute toward healthier air; andWhereas, awareness of vehicle travel and a decrease in vehicle miles traveled has had a positive impact on our local air quality conditions; andWhereas the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission provides an air quality program that includes the current and forecast Air Quality Index (AQI); andWhereas, MORPC and the Gahanna City Council seek to encourage awareness that the AQI scale informs the public about daily ozone and particle pollution levels in Central Ohio, and that Central Ohioans can check the current and forecast AQI and sign up to receive free Air Quality Alert notifications delivered by email or text message at morpc.org/airquality <http://morpc.org/airquality>; andWhereas a national conversation about the impacts of air quality on public health in our communities is important and will help inform the public about protecting health from air pollution while still enjoying being active outside;BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA: That this Council does hereby recognize National Air Quality Awareness Week from Monday, May 4, 2020 through Friday, May 8, 2020 in the City of Gahanna.
