A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CO-LOCATION OF GAHANNA'S EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS FUNCTIONS WITH MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP AND THE METROPOLITAN EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER (MECC).

WHEREAS: The City of Gahanna recognizes that the co-location of dispatching services which will combine police, fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) dispatchers in one center within the city provides for the efficient, cost-effective and timely delivery of first responders to emergency situations occurring within Gahanna and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS: Through the consolidation of dispatching services with Mifflin Township, the City of Gahanna can capitalize on investments made in emergency communications infrastructure, equipment, joint training and inter-departmental operations made over the last two decades; and
WHEREAS: Mifflin Township has made an investment in an existing structure within the City which will keep emergency dispatching services and the jobs of the services providers located within Gahanna
WHEREAS: The co-location of emergency dispatching services in one facility with Mifflin Township positions the newly created center to offer such services to other local units of government within the region further reducing overall costs and enhancing the regional capabilities of joint dispatching operation; and
WHEREAS: This Council hereby encourages the Gahanna Division of Police and Mifflin Township to pursue all necessary programming and operational needs discussions in order to realize the co-location of emergency dispatching services within the City of Gahanna; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council hereby recognizes the benefits of pursuing the co-location of emergency dispatching services within a facility located within the City of Gahanna in the interest of providing for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Gahanna
