TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER (SRO) CONTRACT WITH GAHANNA-JEFFERSON PUBLIC SCHOOLS (GJPS) FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the school district has agreed to pay 75% of the costs associated with one officer providing SRO services to Gahanna-Lincoln High School and 50% of the cost for a second GLHS-based SRO; and
WHEREAS, this is an increase from previously billed 50% of total cost; and
WHEREAS, the amount for the 2019-2020 school year which will be billed to the district is $190,511,00, a $52,418.00 increase in costs paid by the district to the city;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into the School Resource Officer contract with Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools, 140 S. Hamilton Road, Gahanna, Ohio, 43230, for the 2019-2020 school year; said contract attached hereto as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
Section 2. That the second reading is hereby waived.
Section 3. That, for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare, this Ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
