Title

 

TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO SIGN AN EXTENSION AGREEMENT FOR THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE, OHIO LABOR COUNCIL, INC (FOP-OLC) FOR THE POLICE RADIO DISPATCHERS; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Police Radio Dispatchers are covered under the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, Inc.

 

WHEREAS, the City is currently negotiating with the FOB-OLC regarding the terms of the new contract and it is the intent to complete the negotiations by January 31, 2019, at which time ratification by both the union members and City Council will be required; and


WHEREAS, the Director of Human Resources is requesting authorization for the Mayor to sign an agreement with the FOP to continue the terms of the current contract until the new contract is ratified; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this legislation due to the pending contract expiration date of December 31, 2018, all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into a Bargaining Unit Agreement for the FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE, OHIO LABOR COUNCIL, Inc. (FOP-OLC); for the extension of the contract until the time that the new contract can be ratified by both the bargaining unit members and the City of Gahanna, said Agreement attached to hereto as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.

 

Section 2. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this Ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
