TO AUTHORIZE THE PURCHASE OF A PETERBILT 337 DUMP TRUCK FOR THE WATER, SEWER, AND STORM DIVISIONS; FROM THE COLUMBUS PETERBILT.

WHEREAS, our Fleet Division has a robust equipment replacement program that uses multiple criteria, displayed through numeric formulas, to determine when a piece of equipment needs replaced; and

WHEREAS, the rule for vehicles is that the vehicle must rate at least a 1 to be considered for replacement; and

WHEREAS, in addition to making sure that our equipment is being replaced at the proper time, the City is committed to "right-sizing" fleets and to having the proper volume of equipment to perform tasks effectively; and

WHEREAS, the Water, Sewer and Storm divisions currently own two vehicles that each have issues; and

WHEREAS, the Water, Sewer and Storm divisions have proposed that they dispose of two current vehicles that are not effective and replace with one that is; and

WHEREAS, while the rule is that a vehicle must rate a 1 to be considered for replacement, the fact that two vehicles will be replaced with one has caused us to support this proposal; and

WHEREAS, the unit selected to replace these vehicles is a Peterbilt 337 dump truck that will be designed to hold and carry up to twelve tons of material; and

WHEREAS, it will also have the capability of towing our large trailer with the backhoe or other equipment to the job site as required whether it is loaded or empty; and

WHEREAS, the versatility and capability of this replacement truck will greatly improve the operational effectiveness of the Water, Sewer and Storm divisions; and

WHEREAS, the cost for the vehicle is $97,896 and there are sufficient funds in the proprietary Water, Sewer and Storm Equipment Replacement accounts; and

WHEREAS, the bidding requirement for this equipment has been satisfied because it will be purchased through the use of Ohio Department of Transportation Contract #023-16.
