TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT A FORMAL GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE 2017 OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (ODOT) MUNICIPAL BRIDGE PROGRAM; AND TO AUTHORIZE THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO ESTABLISH A SPECIAL FUND FOR THE GRANT, IF AWARDED.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, in an effort to secure funding for Capital Improvements, we are requesting permission to apply for the Ohio Department of Transportation Municipal Bridge Program; and

 

WHEREAS, eligible projects for this program include bridge replacements and rehabilitations projects in municipal corporations; and

 

WHEREAS, the bridge that carries Heil Drive over Sycamore Run is currently rated in poor condition, so it has been identified as needing replacement as part of our Bridge Replacement Program; and

 

WHEREAS, this program will typically reimburse 80% of the construction cost of the approved bridge improvements, however, this funding cycle the program is covering 95% of the construction cost of improvements; and

 

WHEREAS, this project directly aligns with GoForward Gahanna Strategic Results 2.1, 2.2, and 2.4 Roads, Bridges, and Infrastructure.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to submit a formal grant application for the 2017 Ohio Department of Transportation Municipal Bridge Program.

 

Section 2. That the Finance Director is hereby authorized to establish a special fund for the grant, if awarded.

 

Section 3.  That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
