TITLE

 

TO AUTHORIZE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ADOPT POLICY AND PROCEDURE CONTENT SUPPLIED BY LEXIPOL.

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna, Division of Police, utilizing federal equitable sharing funds, partnered with LEXIPOL for a complete overhaul of its written policies and procedures in order to meet the accreditation standards as outlined by the Ohio Collaborative for Law Enforcement Certification (OCLEAC); and


WHEREAS, LEXIPOL offers web-based custom policy content that is state-specific and is integrated with scenario-based daily training on high-risk, low-frequency events such as use of deadly force as but one example; and

 

WHEREAS, LEXIPOL is used by police, fire, corrections and municipal governments for policy and procedural content by other agencies in Ohio and throughout the country; and


WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Chief of Police to seek agency accreditation through OCLEAC utilizing the content and services provided by LEXIPOL; and


WHEREAS, regular updates as provided by LEXIPOL will be solidified in policy and disseminated on an as-needed basis to Division of Police members; and


WHEREAS, the Division of Police requests that any policy updates are subsequently authorized for incorporation into policy and for dissemination to the Division; and


WHEREAS, as equitable sharing funds will be used to fund the annual cost of the entire LEXIPOL project, this request will not impact the General Fund nor require any supplemental appropriations.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That the Police Department is hereby authorized to adopt Policy and Procedure content supplied by LEXIPOL.

 

Section 2. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon passage by this Council and 30 days after signature approval by the Mayor.
