TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH CHAMPION ENERGY SERVICES, LLC FOR ENERGY SUPPLY 2018 THROUGH 2020; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
BODY
WHEREAS, as the City prices rates offered by energy suppliers, we have historically been faced with the issue of needing Council action in order to enter into an agreement with a supplier, but needing to be able to sign immediately in order to secure the price; and
WHEREAS, in 2014 the City entered into agreement with Tradition Energy to be our energy consultant and were able to lock in a three-year rate through 2017 with Champion Energy at a rate lower than we were currently paying; and
WHEREAS, Tradition Energy recently contacted the City to inform us that it could be a good time to lock rates beyond 2017; and
WHEREAS, a request for proposal was prepared and the City received prices below our current rate that we could lock into now to take effect when our current agreement expires; and
WHEREAS, the winning supplier was Champion and they offered future rates that extend a 14%+ rate reduction from 2018 to 2020; and
WHEREAS, Champion is requiring Council authorization for their agreement at this time; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to proceed as soon as possible to lock in the low rate currently being offered, and all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into agreement with CHAMPION ENERGY SERVICES, 1500 Rankin Road, Suite 200, Houston, Texas, 77073, for energy supply from 2018 to 2020; said agreement attached as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
Section 2. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this Ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
