TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH KRIS POHLMAN FOR GRANT WRITER SERVICES FOR THE CLEAN OHIO TRAIL FUND GRANT, RECREATIONAL TRAIL FUND PROGRAM GRANT, AND THE NATUREWORKS GRANT FOR TRAIL AND PARK IMPROVEMENTS; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the Parks & Recreation Department has requested authorization to apply for three grants to help fund trail and park improvements in the City of Gahanna for the McCutcheon Road park and the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4; and
WHEREAS, the Clean Ohio Trail Fund Grant will aid in funding the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4, which has an estimated cost of over $1 million dollars; and
WHEREAS, the Recreational Trail Program Grant will award up to $150,000 for trail improvements, including loop trails in parks; and
WHEREAS, Natureworks Grant recipients have been awarded between $100,000 and $200,000 for the past few years, depending on available funding in Franklin County; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Parks & Recreation is requesting authorization to enter into contract for grant writer services for three grants for a total cost of $8,000; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this legislation to meet grant application deadlines and all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with Kris Pohlman, 67 Brookwood Place, Delaware, Ohio 43015, for grant writer services for the Clean Ohio Trail Fund Grant, Recreational Trail Fund Program Grant, and the Natureworks Grant for trail and park improvements; said contract attached hereto as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
Section 2. That an amount not to exceed EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS ($8,000) has been set aside in 2016 appropriations to cover herein costs.
