TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDS FOR THE RECREATIONAL TRAIL PROGRAM (RTP) GRANT FOR A LOOP TRAIL AT MCCUTCHEON ROAD PARK OR TO ADD TO THE BIG WALNUT TRAIL, SECTION 4.

WHEREAS, the Director of Parks & Recreation is requesting authorization to apply for grant funds for a loop trail at McCutcheon Road Park or to add to the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4; and

 

WHEREAS, the Recreational Trail Program Grant will award up to $150,000 for trail improvements, including loop trails in parks; and

 

WHEREAS, the public planning process for the McCutcheon Road park development will begin later this winter season and several funding mechanisms will be used to fund this park, potentially in phases over time; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parks & Recreation Department is evaluating the strength of the McCutcheon Road park project compared to the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4 at this time; and


WHEREAS, if the Parks & Recreation Department does not feel the loop trail will be funded, they may elect to request grant funds to add to the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4 project instead; and

 

WHEREAS, the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4 cost is anticipated to be over $1 million but better estimates will be developed as the project planning moves forward.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to sign and submit the Recreational Trail Program (RTP) Grant for a loop trail at McCutcheon Road Park or to add to the Big Walnut Trail, Section 4.

 

Section 2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute all documents required by law, policies and agreements in making such application and, if the City is selected as a grant recipient, accepting the grant funds.

 

Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and after approval by the Mayor.
