TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO THE STEELWORKERS PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016, TO PROVIDE MEDICAL, DENTAL AND VISION COVERAGE FOR EMPLOYEES UNDER THE STEELWORKERS BARGAINING UNIT AGREEMENT.

WHEREAS, our Steelworker employees are covered under a separate medical, dental and vision insurance provider per their current bargaining unit agreement; and
WHEREAS, the remainder of our employees are covered under the Central Ohio Healthcare Consortium (COHCC); and
WHEREAS, article 20 of the current bargaining unit agreement between the City of Gahanna and the United Steelworkers, employees will pay 15% of their premiums and are eligible to receive a premium reduction based upon their level of participation in the wellness program as outlined in their agreement; and
WHEREAS, their bargaining unit agreement contains a provision that in the event the net cost of the premiums for the Steelworkers Health and Welfare plan is greater than the net costs of the COHCC plan, the members will have the option to move to the COHCC plan or remain on the Steelworker's plan and pay the cost difference; and
WHEREAS, the annual cost of the Steelworkers plan was determined to be more than the costs of the COHCC plan for 2016, but after review and discussion, the Steelworkers have determined that they will remain on the Steelworkers plan and the members will pay the cost difference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into the Steelworkers Participation Agreement, 60 Boulevard of the Allies, Suite 700, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania 15222, effective January 1, 2016 to provide medical, dental and vision coverage for employees under the Steelworkers Bargaining unit agreement, said agreement attached hereto as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
