TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (ODNR) BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION GRANT FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING AND CONTINUING THE CITY’S EDUCATIONAL CANOEING PROGRAM AND FOR ESTABLISHING AN EDUCATIONAL KAYAKING PROGRAM.

WHEREAS, the Director of Parks and Recreation is requesting authorization to apply for Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Boating Safety Education Grant funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the funds will be used to continue the City’s educational canoeing program and for an establishment of an educational kayaking program; and


WHEREAS, the grant was used previously to obtain the canoes, trailer and safety gear; and


WHEREAS, if awarded the grant there could be up to $30,000 available toward the purchase of new canoes, kayaks, trailer, paddling and safety equipment and program development; and

 

WHEREAS, there is a twenty-five percent cash or in-kind match required that the Parks and Recreation Department will provide through the program labor and operational expenses over the next one to two years.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to sign and submit the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Boating Safety Education grant application for the purpose of improving and continuing the City’s educational canoeing program and for the establishment of an educational kayaking program.

 

Section 2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute all documents required by law, policies and agreements in making such application and, if the City is selected as a grant recipient, accepting the grant funds.

 

Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and after approval by the Mayor.
