TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH M+A ARCHITECTS FOR RECONFIGURATION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT DETECTIVE AREA; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the police detective area was originally intended to be occupied by six detectives or officers but is currently housing eleven detectives; and
WHEREAS, the same area houses the suspect interview room, which forces suspects to walk through a secure area in order to enter the interview room; and
WHEREAS, modifications will allow for the area to accommodate twelve work stations and to allow access to the interview room directly from the hallway; and
WHEREAS, three architectural firms were asked to submit a price to redesign the detective area, analyze building humidity issues, provide construction drawings, assist with the formal bid process and oversee the actual construction; and
WHEREAS, M+A Architects was selected as the lowest and best professional service provider; and
WHEREAS, M+A Architects cost to perform the listed services, including the HVAC alternate) is $32,400; and
WHEREAS, there are funds available and appropriated and no supplemental appropriation is needed; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this legislation all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into professional services agreement with M+A Architects, 775 Yard Street, Suite 325, Columbus Ohio 43212, for reconfiguration of the Police Department Detective Area, said agreement attached as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
Section 2. That this Ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
