TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH BENATEC ASSOCIATES; TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL PLANNING SERVICES TO UPDATE THE SIGN CODE; TO WAIVE SECOND READING; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, Zoning Administrator, Bonnie Gard obtained proposals from professional consultants to assist with immediate sign code updates; and

 

WHEREAS, these Professional Consultants made presentations before Planning Commission on July 2, 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, Benatec Associates was selected by Planning Commission to update the sign code; and

 

WHEREAS, funding in the amount of $10,000 is available in the 2003 Appropriations for this work to be completed; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this legislation as quickly as possible in order to have a new sign code in place, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with BENATEC ASSOCIATES, 119 DILLMONT DRIVE, COLUMBUS, OHIO 43235 to provide consultation services for the update of the sign code, said contract attached hereto as EXHIBIT A.

 

Section 2.  That funding in the amount of TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS($10,000) was appropriated in the 2003 Appropriations to Account No. 101.343.5253, Planning, to cover herein costs.

 

Section 3.  That second reading of this legislation is hereby waived.

 

Section 4.  That for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
