TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO PETITION THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REQUESTING A CHANGE IN SPEED LIMIT FOR US 62 WEST, BETWEEN STYGLER ROAD AND MILL STREET; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, Council and the Administration are in agreement that the speed limit needs to be lowered in the stretch of US 62 West, between Stygler Road and Mill Street; and

 

WHEREAS, ODOT rejected the last plan and we need to submit a new one, and ODOT requires new legislation to authorize the plan; and

 

WHEREAS, this petition is requesting the speed limit in this area be reduced to 40 mph; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this for the safety and security of the citizens of Gahanna, and those traveling through; all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to petition ODOT requesting reduction in speed limit for US 62 West, between Stygler Road and Mill Street to 40 mph.

 

Section 2.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately after passage by this Council, and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
