Whereas, Dr. Melissa E. Clarke, a Harvard-educated physician for over 20 years, has been on the frontlines in implementing healthcare reform to improve medical quality and educate patients about taking an active role in their healthcare; and
Whereas, Dr. Melissa E. Clarke has authored the book, "Excuse Me Doctor! I've Got What? Taking Ownership of Your Health and Making Healthcare Reform Work For You" and has made a major impact in the Columbus and Gahanna communities with her presentations about being empowered for your own health and healthcare; and
Whereas, Dr. Melissa E. Clarke a board-certified emergency medicine physician served as Senior Medical Director for a leading provider of health management services that empowers consumers to actively care for their health; and
Whereas, there she led initiatives to help hospitals and doctors adopt the healthcare reform mandates to improve the quality of care they provide; and
Whereas, as a former Associate Dean of Howard University College of Medicine, she designed a recurring eight week curriculum about health and wellness for use by hundreds of community members, with a focus on decreasing healthcare disparities; and
Whereas, Dr. Melissa E. Clarke was educated at Harvard University, the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, and completed residency at Georgetown University. She is also certified in acupuncture; and with extensive knowledge of nutrition and alternative healthcare, she supports the integration of the best of western and eastern medicine; and
Whereas, Dr. Melissa E. Clarke advocates that whatever medical system we use, we each play a crucial role in our own wellness and healing; and
