TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO STEELWORKERS HEALTH AND WELFARE FUND PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STEELWORKERS OF AMERICA; AMENDING  ORD-0022-2005, WHICH AUTHORIZES THE NEGOTIATED LABOR AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STEELWORKERS OF AMERICA; TO WAIVE SECOND READING; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, ORD-0022-2005, passed March 3, 2005, established salary and benefits for the classified employees of the City of Gahanna; and

 

WHEREAS, under the terms of the existing labor agreement, negotiations were undertaken to reopen discussion on health insurance; and

 

WHEREAS, the rates were just provided to the City by the United Steelworkers of America; and

 

WHEREAS, it is critical for the orderly flow of business to allow this agreement to be entered into in a timely fashion, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into "Steelworkers Health and Welfare Fund Participation Agreement" as stated in EXHIBIT A, attached hereto and made a part herein; to be effective January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007.

 

Section 2.  That second reading of this ordinance is hereby waived.

 

Section 3.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and upon date of signature approval by the Mayor.
