Title

TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO SEND A LETTER TO THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REQUESTING A CHANGE IN SPEED LIMIT FOR US 62 WEST, BETWEEN I-270 AND THE GAHANNA BUSINESS DISTRICT; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, Council and the Administration are in agreement that the speed limit needs to be lowered in the stretch of US 62 West, between I-270 and the Gahanna Business district; and

 

WHEREAS, by ORD-0188-2002 the Mayor sent a letter to the Ohio Department of Transportation requesting a reduction in speed limit; and

 

WHEREAS, ODOT has reviewed this request and has proposed a modification to the City's plan; and

 

WHEREAS, to achieve this reduction in speed limit it was requested that the Mayor send a revised letter to ODOT stating that the existing speed limit is "greater than is reasonable and safe"; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this for the safety and security of the citizens of Gahanna, and those traveling through; all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to send a letter to ODOT requesting reduction in speed limit for US 62 West, between I-270 and the Gahanna Business District.

 

Section 2.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council , and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
