TITLE
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING OCTOBER AS NATIONAL ARTS & HUMANITIES MONTH
BODY
WHEREAS, the month of October is recognized and celebrated as National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM); and
WHEREAS, National Arts & Humanities Month was launched by Americans for the Arts more than 30 years ago as National Arts Week to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, National Arts & Humanities Month was reestablished by Americans for the Arts and national arts partners as a month-long celebration, with the goals of focusing on equitable access to the arts at local, state, and national levels; encouraging individuals, organizations, and diverse communities to participate in the arts; allowing governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and raising public awareness about the positive impact of the arts and humanities in our communities and lives; and
WHEREAS, National Arts & Humanities Month serves to recognize the importance of arts and culture across the United States; and
WHEREAS, National Arts & Humanities Month is an opportunity to promote the crucial role of the arts and humanities in promoting individual wellbeing, addressing trauma, connecting cultures, highlighting inequities, and making our communities healthier and stronger; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme is "Stories Unite Us," recognizing how creativity connects us, fuels local economies, preserves our heritage, and shapes our future; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna has a long history of supporting the arts and humanities, whether through our schools or through community partner organizations; and
WHEREAS, as communities across the United States recognize the enduring contributions of the arts and humanities, the City of Gahanna reaffirms its commitment to supporting creative expression and cultural engagement for all residents.
