WHEREAS, in 2010 the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus is celebrating the 90th Anniversary of passage of the Nineteenth Amendment giving women the right to vote and celebrating the 90th anniversary of the League's founding; and
WHEREAS, the League is the organization where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement; and
WHEREAS, the League is a nonpartisan political organization that has fought since 1920 to improve our system of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy believing in representative government and in the individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States; and
WHEREAS, the League annually produces the trusted nonpartisan Voter Information Bulletin, helping voters make an informed decision on Election Day; and
WHEREAS, the League, for 90 years, has held the public trust by respectfully bringing elected leaders and the public together through nonpartisan, civil means and through thoughtfully advancing solutions; and
WHEREAS, this municipality and the central Ohio area have benefited tremendously from the countless volunteer hours donated by League members over its 90-year history of enhancing our democracy;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council and Administration do hereby honor and commend the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus on their 90th anniversary and thank them for their years of service to the community.
Section 2. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
