RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA 2006 CHARTER AMENDMENTS

WHEREAS, every five years Council must appoint a Charter Review Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Review Commission has recommended eight changes that will be placed, in whole, on the November ballot; and
WHEREAS, several of the recommended changes are clean up items to make the Charter gender neutral, to remove references to the “Village of Gahanna,” and to bring the Charter current with federal law as to non discrimination; and
WHEREAS, one change adds a section to Charter on eminent domain and is proposed to address concern with regard to possible improper use of the eminent domain process; and
WHEREAS, one change will clarify the beginning and ending terms of City Council; and
WHEREAS, the remaining changes all clarify the Mayor's authority to appoint Department Heads and allows the Mayor the ability to develop and have in place a supporting staff consistent with the Mayor's policies and decisions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council and Administration support the City of Gahanna Charter Amendments and would encourage the citizens of Gahanna to vote "Yes" at the polls in the November 7, 2006 election.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
