WHEREAS, for quite some time this Council has studied the compensation for various boards and commissions of the City; and
 
WHEREAS, it is deemed appropriate to increase the current compensation of Sixty Dollars per month for Civil Service Commission members due to increased responsibilities and time needed to complete the detailed review of classified employee matters of the City; and
 
WHEREAS, in order to meet the first payroll period of Boards and Commissions, it is necessary for the continued smooth operation of the payroll function to effect this legislation as quickly as possible, and for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and welfare;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
 
Section 1.  That effective January 2, 2000, the five members appointed to the Gahanna Civil Service Commission by the Mayor and City Council, shall each receive compensation in the amount of One Hundred Dollars ($100) per month, payable the second pay period of each month.
 
Section 2.  That Ordinance No. 97-87, passed August 4, 1987, or any parts or sections of ordinances in conflict herewith, shall be repealed as of the effective date of this ordinance.
 
Section 3.  That second reading of this legislation is hereby waived.
 
Section 4.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
