TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO PETITION THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE SECTION OF EAST JOHNSTOWN ROAD FROM RIVA RIDGE TO MORSE ROAD; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, Council and the Administration are in agreement that the speed limit needs to be lowered in the section of East Johnstown Road from Riva Ridge to Morse Road; and
WHEREAS, the Franklin County Engineer would like to see the speed limit reduced on that section of roadway; and
WHEREAS, the City is requesting that the speed limit be reduced to 45 mph; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this for the safety and security of the citizens of Gahanna, as well as those persons traveling through Gahanna; all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to petition the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for a reduction in the speed limit for the section of East Johnstown Road from Riva Ridge to Morse Road.
Section 2. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
