TO SUPPORT THE "WE CARD" PROGRAM TO EDUCATE AREA RETAILERS ABOUT PREVENTING YOUTH ACCESS TO TOBACCO PRODUCTS

WHEREAS, the "We Card" educational sessions began in 1996 with growing participation each year; and

 

WHEREAS,  "We Card" seminars will be held in six area locations emphasizing  how to spot fake IDs, exact requirements of  Ohio and FDA minimum age tobacco sales laws, and how to handle situations when sales are refused; and

 

WHEREAS, in Ohio this program is sponsored by the Ohio Association of Tobacco and Candy Distributors, including Convenience Stores, Retail Merchants, Grocers Association, Ohio Petroleum Council, Petroleum Marketers Retailers and Repair Associations and is endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police conducted in conjunction with the Coalition for Responsible Tobacco Retailing;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That Gahanna City Council, along with the Administration, support the efforts of the "We Card" program and encourage local Gahanna retailers to become involved in this very worthwhile program.

 

Section 2.  That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
