TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH DENNIS MURPHY IN HIS POSITION OF CHIEF OF POLICE, AND WAYNE HOWARD IN HIS POSITION OF DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE FOR THE YEAR 2000

WHEREAS, it is the decision of Dennis Murphy and Wayne Howard to enter into Contract for their services as Chief of Police and Deputy Chief of Police, respectively; and

 

WHEREAS, said Contract is equipped with the benefit and review  procedures which are deemed appropriate by this Council and   Administration; and

 

WHEREAS, in order to effect the terms of this Contract, it is deemed necessary and prudent to declare this legislation emergency for guaranteed continuity for the heads of our police division, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into Contract with Dennis Murphy, Chief of Police of the City of Gahanna, and Wayne Howard, Deputy Chief of Police of the City of Gahanna, said Contract attached to this ordinance as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.

 

Section 2.  That Ordinance No. 990040, passed March 15, 1999, and Ordinance No. 980510, passed December 21, 1998, and any ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed.

 

Section 3.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this authorizing ordinance is declared emergency legislation, and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and approval by the Mayor.
