RECOGNIZING MARCH AS MENTAL RETARDATION AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, we live in a world where people with developmental disabilities are proving their abilities in the work place, with friends and at home with their families; and
WHEREAS, we depend on each other's talents and abilities to help us lead fulfilling lives and
WHEREAS, we desire to have a world that celebrates the unique and individual abilities of all people; and
WHEREAS, we encourage others to identify the abilities in people with developmental disabilities, allowing them unlimited possibilities in all areas of their life; and
WHEREAS, this years theme is "See Abilities...Think Possibilities".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the City of Gahanna recognizes March, 1999, as Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Month.
Section 2. That the City of Gahanna commends the local businesses and citizens that have promoted public awareness by openly accepting people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities into the mainstream of community life.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and approval by the Mayor.
