TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH ROY TAILOR UNIFORM CO. FOR PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT BODY ARMOR VESTS; TO SUPPLEMENTALLY APPROPRIATE $25,000 THEREFOR; TO WAIVE SECOND READING; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, it has been recommended that we purchase replacement body armor for 37 police officers; and
WHEREAS, a supplemental appropriation will be required in order to make this purchase; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this purchase as quickly as possible to help ensure the safety of our officers, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with ROY TAILOR UNIFORM CO., 3889 Business Park Drive, Columbus, OH 43204, for the purchase of 37 replacement body armor vests, in accordance with City specifications.
Section 2. That funding in the amount of TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($25,000) is hereby supplementally appropriated from the unappropriated, unencumbered balance in the general fund to Account No. 101.211.5512, Police, Capital Projects, to cover the herein costs.
Section 3. That ORD-0001-2003, passed January 2, 2003, is hereby amended to reflect this supplemental appropriation.
Section 4. That second reading of this ordinance is hereby waived.
Section 5. That for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
