TITLE

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A BARGAINING UNIT AGREEMENT FOR THE UNITED STEELWORKERS FOR THE PERIOD OF JANUARY 2, 2023, THROUGH JANUARY 1, 2026, WAIVING SECOND READING AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

BODY

 

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna and the United Steelworkers (United Steel, Paper & Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International), or “USW,” have reached a tentative agreement on the 2023-2026 contract; and

 

WHEREAS, the USW bargaining unit has voted in favor of adopting the successor agreement; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Administrative Services requests Council waive second reading and adopt the Ordinance as an emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the peace, safety, health, and welfare of the City of Gahanna in order to implement the contract terms and meet State Employee Relations Board (SERB) filing deadlines.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into a Bargaining Unit Agreement with the USW for the period beginning, and terms retroactive to, January 2, 2023, through January 1, 2026, as attached hereto as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.

 

Section 2. That for the reasons set forth in the preamble above, the second reading is hereby waived, and this Ordinance is declared an emergency measure which shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on the date of signature of approval by the Mayor.
