TITLE
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORD-0088-2021 AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A SECOND EXTENSION AGREEMENT FOR THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE (FOP) - OHIO LABOR COUNCIL(OLC) COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT CONTRACT; WAIVE SECOND READING; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
BODY
WHEREAS, the Police Radio Dispatchers are covered under the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the City is currently negotiating with the FOP-OLC regarding the terms of a new contract and it is the intent to complete the negotiations as quickly as possible, but likely will not reach agreement prior to the date set forth in the prior Extension Agreement authorized by ORD-0088-2021; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Administrative Services is requesting authorization for the Mayor to sign an agreement with the FOP-OLC to continue the terms of the current contract until the new contract is ratified; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this legislation due to the current Extension Agreement expiration date of February 26, 2022, all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety, and welfare.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into a second Extension Agreement with the FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE, OHIO LABOR COUNCIL, Inc. (FOP-OLC); for the extension of the Collective Bargaining Unit Contract until the time that the new contract can be ratified by both the bargaining unit members and the City of Gahanna, said Agreement attached to hereto as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein.
Section 2. The second reading is hereby waived.
Section 3. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this Ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
