TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH MOTOROLA INC., FOR PURCHASE OF THREE MCC-550 OPERATOR POSITION DISPATCH CONSOLES UNDER OHIO TERM SCHEDULE 573077-0-1; TO SUPPLEMENTALLY APPROPRIATE $156,000; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the Police Department is in the process of a comprehensive overhaul and upgrade of the Division's radio and data communications systems to an 800Mhz interoperable radio platform; and

 

WHEREAS, the current Z-Tron consoles in use do not have the capability to transmit or receive the voice and data transmissions of the Motorola 800Mhz radios; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this purchase for the smooth and efficient running of Police Radio Communications, and all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with MOTOROLA INC., Government & Commercial Markets Division, 9150 South Hills Blvd., Broadview Heights, Ohio 44147, for purchase of three MCC-5500 Position Radio Dispatch Consoles; Contract attached as EXHIBIT A, and made a part herein; said purchase to be made from State Term Schedule 573077-0-1.

 

Section 2.  That funding in the amount of ONE HUNDRED FIFTY SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS ($156,000) is hereby supplementally appropriated from the unencumbered, unappropriated balance of the General Fund to Account No. 101.211.5512, Police, Capital Equipment, to cover there herein costs.

 

Section 3.  That ORD-0001-2008, passed January 2, 2008, is hereby amended to reflect this supplemental appropriation.

 

Section 4.  That, for the reason set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
