TO ACCEPT AN AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $115,000 FROM THE 2007 URBAN AREA SECURITY INITIATIVE GRANT AND ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE FRANKLIN COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING MOTOROLA 800 MHZ INTEROPERABLE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, grant monies have been awarded to the City by the Department of Homeland Security as part of the 2007 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI); and
WHEREAS, the Franklin County Homeland Security Advisory Committee (HSAC) oversees the awarding of program funding for all Homeland Security requests; and
WHEREAS, $115,000 is available immediately for the purchase of Motorola 800Mhz encrypted radio equipment and $338,000 will be available at the beginning of calendar year 2009 for the purchase of the remaining equipment as part of the 2008 UASI Grant program; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this ordinance in order to have concurrent and required authorizing legislation passed by the Franklin County Commissioners before the end of the year and for the project to proceed in conjunction with other component parts of the overall project funded by the City; and all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council and Administration, on behalf of the citizens of Gahanna do hereby accept $115,000 from the Department of Homeland Security as part of the 2007 Urban Area Security Initiative grant program.
Section 2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to sign any and all documents related to this grant including the Intergovernmental Agreement attached hereto as EXHIBIT A
