TO EXTEND THE TAX FILING DEADLINE AND DUE DATE FOR THE CITY OF GAHANNA FOR THE YEAR 2014; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY
 
Body
WHEREAS, at the height of the tax season the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) is facing the challenge of an unprecedented demand for filing services and residents are not able to connect to their website to file their taxes; and
 
WHEREAS, due to the connectivity issues, RITA has extended their tax deadline to April 21; and
 
WHEREAS, for continuity of service to residents and not be assessed with penalties or interest due to unforeseeable complications, the City is extending the deadline to April 21; and
 
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to have the tax filing deadline extended, all for the preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:
 
Section 1.  That the 2014 tax filing deadline and due date for the City of Gahanna is extended to April 21. This extension applies only for this year.
 
Section 2.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this Ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
