TITLE
A JOINT RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 6, 2024, AS NATIONAL COACHES DAY IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA
BODY
WHEREAS, in the City of Gahanna, Coaches dedicate countless hours and resources to mentoring athletes, building future leaders, and embodying the spirit of our community; and
WHEREAS, on September 19, 1972, President Richard Nixon established October 6th as National Coaches Day; acknowledging that "Coaches are highly qualified teachers [...] friends and counselors who help instill in their players important attitudes that will serve them all their lives."; and
WHEREAS, Coaches range from volunteers to credentialed professionals, with many holding advanced certifications. According to the National Coach Survey Final Report, through The Ohio State University LIFEsports Initiative, the top areas of training for coaches include: tactics and strategy; sport skills and techniques; relationship building; performance anxiety; motivational techniques; leadership development; team dynamics; mental health; effective communication; and life skill development through sport; and
WHEREAS, beyond technique, coaches receive training to address the health needs of their athletes, including prevention and care for possible superficial to serious injuries, as well as hydration and proper strength training practices, ensuring the safety and well-being of those under their care; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna is home to a diverse and thriving athletic community, which includes coaches, athletes, and sports enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, this community includes: the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools comprehensive athletic program, the Gahanna Lions Youth Football League, the Gahanna Junior League Sports, the Gahanna Soccer Association, Gahanna Youth Lacrosse, Gahanna Youth Cheer, Hunters Ridge Seahorses, and Foxboro Barracudas, among many other wonderful organizations; and
