WHEREAS, the quality of urban life is enhanced by the proper management of the urban forest resource; and

WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna recognizes the importance of providing tree and shrub related benefits to is citizens; and

WHEREAS, funding for the purchase, installation and care of trees and other urban vegetation is available through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry; and

WHEREAS, the growing season is upon us and it is imperative to proceed with this at the earliest date possible, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to apply for and, if awarded, enter into agreement with the Department of Natural Resources to administer a grant to implement said program, and that the Mayor is authorized to sign said agreement.

Section 2. That the City of Gahanna hereby requests the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, to consider and fund its application project.

Section 3. That it is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the adoption of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all deliberations of the Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action, were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements including Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Section 4. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble herein above, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately...
