TITLE

A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING JUNE 2023 AS ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS AND BRAIN HEALTH MONTH

BODY

WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging but a progressive brain disease that causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior; and

 

WHEREAS, researchers believe there is no single cause of Alzheimer’s disease but that it likely develops from a variety of factors, such as genetics, lifestyle, and environment; and

 

WHEREAS, more than 6 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease, and by 2050, it is projected that the number of people aged 65 and older living with the disease will reach 12.7 million; and

 

WHEREAS, the costs of care, including ongoing medical treatment for Alzheimer’s symptoms, diagnosis, and follow-up, safety-related expenses, prescription drugs, personal care supplies, adult day care services, in-home services, and full-time residential services those afflicted by Alzheimer’s, continues to rise for individuals and caregivers; and

 

WHEREAS, recognizing Alzheimer’s Awareness and Brain Health provides an opportunity for this Council to promote and join in the global conversation about this disease as a public health crisis.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1. That this Council does hereby designate June 2023 as Alzheimer’s Awareness and Brain Health Month in the City of Gahanna.

 

Section 2. That this Council calls upon policymakers at every level to take action to address this growing crisis and enact policies that provide better care and support for those facing this terrible disease.

 

Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
