TO AMEND CHAPTER 1165, SIGNS, OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, a total rewrite of the sign code was necessary to comport to federal standards; and
WHEREAS, this chapter of code has been in the process of rewrite for approximately two years; and
WHEREAS, the process was started by two different consultants, was rewritten by the Zoning Administrator and special counsel, as well as the City Attorney; and
WHEREAS, these changes have been reviewed and recommended by Planning Commission at their meeting of August 9, 2006; and
WHEREAS, City Council has held a public hearing and has reviewed said changes; and
WHEREAS, the City Attorney has requested that due to the complexities of the code and its enforcement that this legislation be put in place as quickly as possible, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That Chapter 1165, Sign Regulations, of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Gahanna is hereby amended in accordance with EXHIBIT A, attached hereto and made a part herein.
Section 2. That existing Chapter 1165, Signs, or any ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herein, are hereby repealed.
Section 3. That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
