RECOGNIZING COMMUNITIES IN MOTION WEEK

WHEREAS, public transportation is making a real difference in the daily lives of individuals and households in Gahanna; and

 

WHEREAS, public transportation is vital to the quality of life and economic well being of all citizens of Gahanna; and

 

WHEREAS, workers, school children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those unable to afford an automobile use public transportation to gain access to jobs, schools, medical facilities, and other fundamental services; and

 

WHEREAS, public transportation helps lead the nation towards its goals and policies of protecting the environment, conserving energy, and providing for the health, safety and security of its citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, public transportation enables people from all walks of life to access opportunities that allow them to accomplish what is important to them, making the community stronger and more vibrant; and

 

WHEREAS, the Central Ohio Transit Authority and the American Public Transportation Association have declared the week of October 13, 2003 through October 18, 2003 to be COMMUNITIES IN MOTION WEEK and have called upon all citizens to join in a nationwide effort to promote public transportation benefits;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That this Council and Administration acknowledge that the week of October 13, 2003 through October 18, 2003 shall be Communities in Motion Week in Gahanna and call upon all citizens to support public transportation and to become more active in education and advocacy efforts to promote the vital role that public transportation plays in Gahanna, Franklin County, Ohio and across the United States.

 

Section 2.  That this resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council.
