Title

TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH THE OHIO BUREAU OF WORKERS' COMPENSAION FOR CONTRACT COVERAGE FOR VOLUNTEER POLICE, EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN AND FIRE FIGHTER EMERGENCY SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation revised the contract for Volunteer Police, Emergency Medical Technician and Fire Fighter Emergency Service Organizations to ensure compliance with Ohio Revised Code Section 4123.01 and 4123.03; and

 

WHEREAS, these types of workers are not to be covered by the City's regular policy; and

 

WHEREAS, Gahanna currently has 13 Reserve Police Officers that fall into this category and therefore execution of the contract is required; and

 

WHEREAS, the revised regulations went into effect on January 1, 1998 and it is incumbent upon the City to come into compliance as quickly as possible, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, 30 West Spring Street, Columbus Ohio 43215, for contract coverage for Volunteer Police, Emergency Medical Technician and Fire Fighter Emergency Service Organizations in accordance with contract attached to this ordinance as EXHIBIT A.

 

Section 2.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and approval by the Mayor.
