TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO EXTENDED CONTRACT WITH SHELLY AND SANDS, INC. FOR HAMILTON ROAD NORTH MEDIAN LANDSCAPING TO ADD TREES, IMPROVEMENT NO. 784; TO SUPPLEMENTALLY APPROPRIATE $157,400; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, the City contracted with Shelly and Sands, Inc. for Hamilton Road North median landscaping authorized by ORD-0078-2006; and

 

WHEREAS, the landscape plan approved by ORD-0119-2006 includes trees, shrubs, grasses, decorative rock features and accent lighting and the schedule being used will add these planting features over a period of years; and

 

WHEREAS, adding the trees only is a cost effective way to give the roadway project a more finished appearance and give the trees a head start; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this work in a timely fashion to keep the project on schedule, all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with SHELLY AND SANDS, INC., 1515 Harmon Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43223, for Hamilton Road North landscape median work, in accordance with City specifications.

 

Section 2.  That funding in the amount of ONE HUNDRED FIFTY SEVEN THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS ($157,400) is hereby supplementally appropriated form the unencumbered, unappropriated balance of the General Fund to Account No. 101.145.5541, Capital Projects, Streets, to cover the herein costs.

 

Section 3.  That ORD-0001-2006, passed January 2, 2006, is hereby amended to reflect this supplemental appropriation.

 

Section 4.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
