TO HONOR AND COMMEND ANDREW J. MONTGOMERY ON ACHIEVEMENT OF THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

WHEREAS, ANDREW J. MONTGOMERY is a member of Troop 781 in the Tri-Creek District, Simon Kenton Council, of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHERAS, as his service project to become an Eagle Scout, ANDREW J. MONTGOMERY planned, supervised and assisted with the recording of oral history, specifically, family stories of Mr. John Washington, who is descended from a slave who escaped from Virginia to Franklin County via the underground railroad and also from a free black resident of Columbus who helped start the first black newspaper in Ohio, an abolitionist weekly, The Palladium of Liberty, published from 1843-1844.
WHEREAS, because of his project, citizens of Franklin County have a deeper understanding, from a personal perspective, of this period of history.
WHEREAS, ANDREW J. MONTGOMERY serves as an exemplary standard for the youth of our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council and Administration, on behalf of the citizens of Gahanna, honor and commend ANDREW J. MONTGOMERY for his attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout.
Section 2. That ANDREW J. MONTGOMERY is given heartfelt thanks for being a good citizen and is wished success in his future endeavors.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
