RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE PURCHASE OF MCCORKLE PARK

WHEREAS, Council, on June 3, 1997, authorized the Mayor to enter into a Lease/Option to Purchase Agreement with the McCorkle's for the 13.518 acres adjacent to and Northeast of the Middle School West Athletic Fields; and
WHEREAS, this site is in great demand for youth athletic fields and other Parks and Recreation programs; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department has made some preliminary improvements to allow for youth athletic play to begin the Fall of 1998; and
WHEREAS, William R. and Mae L. McCorkle have graciously consented to lease their 13.518 acre parcel with an option to purchase with a commitment from the City that said property be known as McCorkle Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council confirms its intent to purchase the McCorkle Park site by requesting the Mayor and Director of Parks and Recreation to obtain an appraisal so that negotiations may begin toward the purchase of said property.
Section 2. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and approval by the Mayor.
