A RESOLUTION URGING THE OHIO GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO REEXAMINE AND RECONSIDER STATE LAWS REGARDING PREVAILING WAGES

WHEREAS, state law creates obligations on the City which are directly or indirectly related to employees wages, further exacerbating the City's ability to maintain fiscal responsibility; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna is forced by prevailing wage law to pay for construction labor at a rate that may be higher than what is available from other contractors; and
 
WHEREAS, the existing prevailing wage law potentially increases the cost of construction on municipal projects which may also become a financial burden on our taxpaying citizens; and
 
WHEREAS, the prevailing wage law should be made conformant with recent Supreme Court rulings;  
 
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
 
Section 1.  That this Council and Administration urges the General Assembly to reexamine and evaluate the prevailing wage rate based on the actual average pay rates of workers in the various trades in each region.
 
Section 2.  That this resolution shall take effect and be in force at the earliest period allowed by law.
