TO EXTEND THE SHORT-TERM POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS; TO AMEND ORD-0254-2000; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Administration and this Council to extend the position of Director of Emergency Management created by ORD-0254-2000 for two years, with the mutual understanding that this position is a temporary position for a limited time frame; and

 

WHEREAS, the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position include an update of all our emergency planning; and

 

WHEREAS, this position currently expires on December 31, 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide for this part time position extension at the earliest possible time, all for orderly planning of critical emergency management for the City and for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the part-time, temporary position of Director of Emergency Management, created by ORD-0254-2000, is hereby extended for a period of two years and will expire on December 31, 2003.

 

Section 2.  That compensation shall be provided in the 2002 appropriations at $31,500 per year with the understanding that the hours may vary on a weekly basis but are not to exceed 1040 hours per year, and with any changes in compensation to be approved by ordinance of Council.

 

Section 3.  That for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
