WHEREAS, the Director of Technology and the Chief of Police have recommended we enter into a 12 month contract for CDMA service for use in our Police cruisers; and

 

WHEREAS, this short term functionality will serve multiple purposes including mobile reporting and field access to both BMV information and warrant information; and

 

WHEREAS, this service will also allow the Police Department multi-jurisdictional connectivity; and

 

WHEREAS, it is imperative to move forward with this request in order to get the most effective use out of our service contract in preparation for the City wide Wi-Fi deployment which will be up and running before our 12 months is complete, and all for the preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:

 

Section 1.  That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with SPRINT/NEXTEL GOVERNMENT for CDMA service for use in our police cruisers, said agreement attached hereto as EXHIBIT A.

 

Section 2.  That FOUR THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED TWENTY DOLLARS ($4,320) is hereby supplementally appropriated from the unappropriated, unencumbered balance in the General Fund to Account No. 101.211.5251, Police, Tech Maintenance, to cover the herein costs. 

 

Section 3.  That ORD-0001-2008, passed January 2, 2008, is hereby amended to reflect this supplemental appropriation.

 

Section 4.  That, for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereinabove, this ordinance is declared emergency legislation and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
