TO DECLARE THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 23-31 AS CENTRAL OHIO RED RIBBON WEEK

WHEREAS, the abuse of alcohol and other drugs has been shown to devastate the health and well being of individuals, families, and communities: and
WHEREAS, alcohol and other drug problems result in an annual expense to Ohioans of $8 billion in lost work, health problems, treatment, and criminal justice costs; and
WHEREAS, people of all ages must be made aware of what they can do to prevent themselves, their families, neighbors, and co-workers from being harmed by the dangers of alcohol and other drugs; and
WHEREAS, the Central Ohio Red Ribbon Coalition and the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County are urging all Ohioans to wear red ribbons and to make a commitment to a healthy, drug free lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, business, media, social services, governments, schools, religious institutions, safety forces, and individuals will demonstrate their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by wearing and displaying Red Ribbons during this week-long celebration; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gahanna, in the County of Franklin, further commits its resources to ensure the success of the Red Ribbon Campaign:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That the Council of the City of Gahanna does hereby declare October 23 through October 31 as Red Ribbon Celebration Week in Gahanna and encourages all its citizens to participate in alcohol and other drug-free lifestyle.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and approval by the Mayor.
