WHEREAS, JOHN MACKENZIE has been the Headmaster of the Columbus Academy for the last 16 years; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Headmaster the school has expanded and the boy-girl ratio of this formerly all boys school is now 50/50 and the staff has expanded from 135 to 187; and
WHEREAS, the Advancing the Quest capital campaign under JOHN MACKENZIE raised $17.5 million for the school, almost 3 times any prior campaign, and also increased endowment by 60% and added 32% more building space, and the New Quest capital campaign is now working toward its $27.5 million goal; and
WHEREAS, there have been extensive curriculum changes under JOHN MACKENZIE, including strengthening the Advanced Placement Program, introduction to foreign language instruction through all grades at the school, the first school in Ohio to offer Chinese as a six-year language option, and establishment of East Asian studies; and
WHEREAS, under JOHN MACKENZIE's leadership the Columbus Academy was the first school in Ohio to receive (in 2010) a $2 million Malone Family Foundation Grant for financial aid for students of outstanding academic promise; and
WHEREAS, JOHN MACKENZIE led several diversity initiatives leading to increased minority enrollment and staffing and revisions in school practices, programs and curriculum; and
WHEREAS, JOHN MACKENZIE has also put into motion the Vision 2015 Program for greater technology integration in the curriculum, and the introduction of curriculum mapping, revising the curriculum in virtually every academic discipline; and
WHEREAS, also under JOHN MACKENZIE's leadership the Columbus Academy is one of Gahanna's top employers and has been voted among the Best Places to Work this year; and
