WHEREAS, the Division of Police has found a need for an additional GPS tracking unit in order to track more than one suspect at a time; and
WHEREAS, a second GPS tracking unit that is compatible with the first will assist detectives in collecting and analyzing valuable evidence in criminal operations; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the original GPS tracking unit was authorized by ORD-0057-2008 although not specifically spelled out in the legislation as being one of the items to purchase; and
WHEREAS, this is an appropriate use of the funds seized from offenders prosecuted at the Federal level as the Chief of Police is authorized by statute to use such funds for equipment purchases for the investigation and prosecution of crimes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That funding in the amount of SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($6,500) is hereby supplementally appropriated from the unappropriated, unencumbered balance of the Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund to Account No. 235.211.5411, Federal Law Enforcement Seizure, Expense.
Section 2. That ORD-0001-2008, passed January 2, 2008, is hereby amended to reflect this supplemental appropriation.
Section 3. That this ordinance confirms the purchase of the first GPS tracking unit as spelled out in an Executive Summary prepared for Council by the Police Department when requesting ORD-0057-2008 although said purchase was not detailed in the legislation.
Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect after passage by this Council and on date of signature approval by the Mayor.
