BODY

WHEREAS, Anna Jarvis established the first Mother’s Day in the United States, which was observed on May 10, 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to honor her late mother and recognize a day of service to help out other mothers who were less fortunate; and

WHEREAS, mothers serve as teachers, caregivers, mentors, and role models in our community, imparting the virtues of kindness, resilience, and fortitude to their children and community at large; and

WHEREAS, Mother’s Day serves as an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the profound impact that mothers have on our lives and communities; and

WHEREAS, all mothers and children must be valued, nurtured, supported, and cared for and that single mothers and mothers who parent without a partner in the home should never feel alone, abandoned, cast aside, stigmatized, or marginalized systematically or personally; and

WHEREAS, single mothers and mothers who parent without a partner in the home are resilient, valuable, and honored members of our community deserving of recognition and celebration.
