RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE GAHANNA-JEFFERSON PUBLIC SCHOOLS 7.9 MILL OPERATING LEVY.

WHEREAS, the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools have placed a 7.9 mill operating levy on the May ballot; and
WHEREAS, the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools have made significant progress raising scores on Ohio achievement tests and have met 21 of 23 state education standards and are just one away from an "excellent" rating; and
WHEREAS, the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools graduation rate is currently 92%; and
WHEREAS, the last Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools levy in 1998 was expected to provide funding for four years, but was stretched into eight years due to sound fiscal management; and
WHEREAS, effective, well funded schools make for a strong community; and
WHEREAS, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools want to continue its high quality programs and retain its outstanding teachers and staff to keep our students on the path to excellence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council and Administration support the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools 7.9 mill operating levy and would encourage the citizens of Gahanna to vote "Yes" at the polls in the May 2, 2006 election.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
