TITLE

A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH IN THE CITY OF GAHANNA SEPTEMBER 15 - OCTOBER 15, 2023

BODY

 

WHEREAS, national Hispanic Heritage recognition started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15; and

 

WHEREAS, diversity is one of Gahanna’s greatest strengths and Gahanna is proudly a community where diverse people are welcome, included, and celebrated, and where such diversity makes up the fabric of traditions and stories woven together to create our community; and

 

WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latine people in Gahanna have made, and continue to make, vital contributions to the City and to the world in every aspect of the arts, education, culture, science, and industry; and

 

WHEREAS, we use this occasion to celebrate the achievements of the Hispanic community, to recommit to honoring Hispanic heritage, and to continue to support and celebrate prosperity and health in the Hispanic community.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAHANNA, COUNTY OF FRANKLIN, STATE OF OHIO, THAT:

 

Section 1.  This City Council hereby recognizes September 15 - October 15, 2023 as Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Gahanna.

 

Section 2.  This City Council supports efforts to ensure the fair and equal treatment of all people in Gahanna.

 

Section 3.  This City Council celebrates the contributions of the Hispanic community and resolves its intention that all members of the Hispanic community can thrive in Gahanna.

 

Section 4.  This Resolution shall be in full force and effect at the earliest period allowed by law.
